The Contest
A GUTSY GIRL BOOK
My name is Rosy, and I’m going to be the first half-Mohawk to win an Anne of Green Gables look-alike contest
When Helen, my favorite librarian, told me about the contest, I was thrilled. And determined to win. I know everything about Anne – I’d even say we’re kindred spirits. And do you know what the best part is? The prize! A brand new set of Anne books.
It may not seem like a big deal, but to me it would be amazing. Almost everything I own is a hand-me-down. I can only imagine what it would be like to have my own set of books, never before read by anyone else. Never sneezed on or smudged with dirty fingers. The first thing I would do is write my name on the inside cover of each one, with a green pen.
The problem? I’m half Mohawk. Actually I’m very proud of that, but in this case it doesn’t help me in the look-alike department. You know who does look like Anne, with her red hair and freckles? My new friend, Lydia Parker. This makes her my biggest competition, but she can’t help it. Plus she’s really nice, and even though she’s rich and lives in an almost-castle, sometimes I think I’m better off.
So who will win the contest? You’ll have to read on to find out.
